A Memorial Day email worth a forward

by on May.22, 2009, under Local, National, North Carolina

I’ve recently received several copies of an email that is circulating. Most of the forwards that I receive are not worth my time to read; this one however is different- and worth consideration this weekend, though I take one exception to it.

It is the veteran, not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the veteran, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the veteran, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the veteran, not the campus organizer who has given us freedom to assemble.
It is the veteran, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the veteran, not the politician, who has given us the right to vote.

The exception that I will take is that it is the Creator that grants these rights; it is,  however, the veteran that has allowed them.

This weekend, we recognized  the fallen soldier that has paid the ultimate price to ensure that we have to opportunity to experience them. For this, we should take a moment to remember their sacrifice.

One great way to remember those who have fallen can be found at productsforgood.com; click on “Mission” to see what I mean.

Let us also renew our commitment to each other the dedication to the principals for which so many have died; those of life, liberty, property and the pursuit of happiness.
