There was a good article in the Observer today by George Will, http://www.charlotteobserver.com/406/story/620066.html. There is nothing here that you don’t already know, but it is a good summary of the path that our nation is on.

I was asked last week, why I had an interest in politics. I think this article by Will suggests why we all should have an interest in politics- and be more motivated than ever before to be active. I am hopeful that the action being taken by the Liberty Tea Parties, Glenn Beck 9/12 Project and other grassroots movements (including a growing conservative movement within the GOP) will continue to build momentum for a legitimate nationwide debate on the role of government in the lives of each American; or at least the responsibility of the individual to question it.

Our system is not broken as was suggested to me recently; rather the guardians of the system have not followed through in protecting our rights. Patrick Henry reminds us, “The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government — lest it come to dominate our lives and interests.” And, Jefferson’s words resound today, as few times in our history: “What country before ever existed a century & a half without a rebellion? & what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. It is its natural manure.”

As we defend the remnants of Capitalism, this is an excellent resource: http://business.clemson.edu/BBTCENTER/cci/capres/wci/wci.html, with a full definition of Capitalism in outline form; well worth a read, and a bookmark for future reference.

Former Democrat Senator Max Cleland spoke at Gardner-Webb University last night, and stated that the Chinese character for “crisis” was actually composed of 2 different characters- the first was “disaster” the second was “opportunity”. As we live and work under the current administration- and the disaster it is bringing to Capitalism, we must focus on the opportunity the disaster presents-an opportunity to unite as conservatives, to revive the GOP with a consistent, conservative message, and to hold our elected officials accountable for their votes.

Let us step forward as the guardians of the worst system of government devised by mankind (except for all the others), and reclaim our rights as individuals to self-governance.

    My Pledge:

It has become apparent that the actions of our Federal Government over the past ten decades have eroded the framework of our United States Constitution to the point that now we are no longer a free and prosperous society. It is also apparent that “We the People” are just as culpable in this action as any elected official and share the blame equally and thus must suffer our apathy and our sentence. That being said; it is now the responsibility of “We the People” to return our republic back to it’s founding creed. We must throw off the chains of dependency, ignorance, arrogance and irresponsibility. We must remember the advice of our founding fathers. We must go back to the ideals and principles of which we were conceived and breathe back into this land the spirit of liberty and self-determination. There is no other body of men on the face of this planet more capable than we and there is no time left for us to reflect upon our past transgressions. It is incumbent upon us, the descendants of Jefferson, Washington, Franklin and Adams to fight for our birthright as Americans. We must take the fight to the courts of this land and to the classrooms of our places of learning and if we must to the fields of conflict. We must endeavor to continue, to persevere in the face of great odds and a corrupt system that has taken on a life of its own. It is our turn to under the yoke and we must not fail. Within our generation live the last vestiges of freedom and liberty. We are the last Americans to understand what it is that we are loosing and if we do not save this gift that few men have ever known then we will be unworthy of having been called an American. Our children will not know us as we were meant to be, they will only know the shell of someone who once breathed air without the worry of its cost. I know of no greater sorrow than to tell my descendants, my children that I have allowed their happiness and liberty, their very life to be stolen without so much as a whimper. It is my fortune, my freedom and if need be my life that I pledge to restore my country.

    Jeff Austin.
